Taylor Engle, DVM, MS

Taylor Engle often jokes that he became a swine veterinarian because of his love for baseball. He grew up playing baseball in southeast Florida, but also spent a lot of time in West Virginia, where his family raised cattle and thoroughbred horses. Taylor received a baseball scholarship to attend St. Lawrence University in upstate New York, where he studied biology. Following that, he went to the University of Nebraska, where he focused on porcine circovirus for his master’s degree. During his time at Nebraska, he also joined the baseball coaching staff and served as a bullpen catcher for a minor league team.

After being accepted into Virginia Tech’s veterinary school, Taylor interned with several veterinarians at Four Star Veterinary Service. He earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2018 and subsequently joined Dr. Minton’s staff at Minton Veterinary Service, working with both hogs and cattle. Currently, Taylor resides in Dayton, Ohio, where he has taught animal science as an adjunct instructor at Wright State University. He also hopes to pursue coaching baseball in the future.
